The adult flea lives permanently on the host.

With normal grooming the life span of the adult flea is only 10 - 20 days spent in an orgy of feeding and reproduction The female flea needs a blood meal to reproduce and starts laying eggs within 48 hours at a rate of 4 - 20/day

The length of time for the life cycle to complete is dependent on temperature and humidity 3 weeks at 30 C 3 months at 15 C at below 55% humidity, they desiccate
